After a working lifetime going from nerdy engineer to financial services executive, Patrick Willis quit being a corporate drone to look for something better. Whilst working out how to put his business experience and coaching skills to better use, he found a bigger “why”:

Imagine a busy, working person walking out of the doctor’s one day being told they have a terminal illness, there are not words to describe the shock and range of emotions that come up. We 21st century Westerners like to think we’re immortal… until we’re not. As anyone who’s been there will tell you, the mental battle and pain is usually worse than the physical one, and yet most medical resources are marshalled to fixing you physically.

Having seen the turmoil and pain people receiving a terminal diagnosis go through, Patrick launched a coaching business to help them live their best possible life. To not only cope, but thrive.

Patrick’s dream is a support system that grabs the hand of every person leaving the doctor’s office with a terminal diagnosis and empowers them to live life to the full. He is currently writing a book : Unfinished Business – a handbook to thriving with a terminal illness.

Media Pitch

In the 21st century West, it’s so hard for people to hear that they might be dying. We comfortably ignore end of life issues most of the time, until we can’t, and then it’s a huge shock. I want to change that.

As a podcast guest I can offer the following:

– 3 things ALL of us should do now to prepare for our death, regardless of how healthy we are
– practical insights to support those who have a terminal illness, their friends and their loved ones
– bust some major myths about living and dying with terminal illness
– challenge and alternative perspectives on a crucially important topic

Talking Points or Standard Questions

– the truth is, none of us know how long we’ll live, are there things we should all do to prepare for the worst?
– what are the biggest problems people don’t expect when they have a terminal illness?
– what myths do you come across that you’d like to explode?
– you talk about coaching, I’ve heard of counselling for terminal illness but not coaching, what’s the difference?
– you’re writing a book, what will be different about it
– what do people most often forget about when they’re leaving loved ones behind?
– what would you most like to see changed in the medical profession supporting terminally ill people?
